Program content
The federal government is ramping up the most comprehensive new requirements in over 20 years for management action relating to internal controls. OMB's recently updated Circular A-123 has established a much more demanding environment for managers to ensure that internal controls are in place to prevent fraud, waste and abuse in the administration of programs. This presentation is designed for the front-line practitioner, manager, or executive who is responsible for internal controls or must build and sustain the policies, procedures and practices needed for an effective internal controls program.

About Rob Irish, Barbara Pitts and John Scornaienchi
Rob Irish is a Manager with Grant Thornton's Global Public Sector with over nine years' experience in financial management and accounting for government agencies and private industry. His special expertise is the areas of financial analysis, internal control risk assessment and analysis of financial management and property systems. Rob's experience includes strategic planning, financial statement auditing, financial reporting, business process analysis and reengineering, financial analysis and forecasting, knowledge management, and financial system implementation.
Barbara Pitts is a Manager with Grant Thornton's Global Public Sector and has over ten years' experience in public accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and has audited several Federal, state and local and non-for-profit entities and has knowledge of major accounting/operational systems. Barbara has a broad knowledge of governmental accounting and internal controls and is currently assisting clients with audit resolution, risk assessments and implementing effective internal controls.
John Scornaienchi is a Manager with Grant Thornton's Global Public Sector. He has over 26 years of experience in the financial services industry. John is skilled in financial management, reporting and analysis, budgets and forecasting, accounting systems, policy development, reconciliation and compliance systems, supervisory performance, internal controls and strategic planning.
