About Panel of Industry Experts
Bill Carroll teaches courses in economics, yield management, pricing and marketing distribution. He is also CEO of Marketing Economics, a consulting firm specializing in travel industry pricing, distribution, yield management and strategic planning.
For more than 25 years, Carroll held a variety of senior positions in the travel industry. He has written numerous articles on economics and travel industry topics. Carroll holds a BA degree in economics from Rutgers, an MS in labor studies from the University of Massachusetts, and a PhD in economics from Penn State.
Before co-founding IDeaS in 1989, Ravi Mehrotra, PhD, taught electrical and computer engineering at North Carolina State University and held engineering roles at Texas Instruments and Anderson Consulting. While an Assistant Professor at NCSU, he invented new models for parallel computing, designed and analyzed algorithms for distributed processing, and reviewed proposals for key government scientific agencies.
The holder and co-author of more than one dozen patents, Mehrotra graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology and earned his PhD in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
Professor Jan A. deRoos has devoted his career to hospitality real estate, focusing on the valuation, financing, development and operation of lodging, time-share, and restaurant assets. His areas of teaching expertise span the entire range of hospitality real estate topics.
He has developed two software tools to support the feasibility analysis of hospitality property and recently co-authored the fourth edition of The Negotiation and Administration of Hotel Management Contracts. He holds BS, MS and PhD degrees from Cornell University, all in hotel administration.
Philip Schaetz oversees pricing and revenue management for Hyatt's hotels outside of North America, as well as the Park Hyatt and Andaz brands globally. Previously, Schaetz served as Director of Pricing and Distribution for Asia Pacific, where he was responsible for pricing, distribution and revenue management.
In 1998 Schaetz played an integral role in the opening of Hyatt's first central reservation center outside North America in Mainz, Germany, where he spearheaded revenue management for Central Europe. He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
