About Timothy Profeta, Duke University; Cyndy Yu-Robinson, Lenovo; Alyssa Farrell, SAS
Timothy Profeta, Director, Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, Duke University
Tim Profeta came to Duke on June 1, 2005, as founding director of the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions. Prior to his arrival, he served as Counsel for the Environment to Senator Joseph Lieberman. As Lieberman's counsel, Profeta was a principal architect of the Lieberman-McCain Climate Stewardship Act of 2003. He also represented Lieberman in legislative negotiations pertaining to environmental and energy issues, as well as coordinating the senator's energy and environmental portfolio during his runs for national office.
Profeta has served as a visiting lecturer at Duke Law School, where he taught a weekly seminar on the evolution of environmental law and the Endangered Species Act. Before joining Lieberman's staff, he was a law clerk for Judge Paul L. Friedman, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Cyndy Yu-Robinson, Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, Lenovo
Cyndy joined Lenovo, a global PC manufacturer, in March 2008, focusing on sustainability and marketing green IT. Previously, Cyndy was a Presidential Management Intern turned Congressional liaison and communication director at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for 17 years. Cyndy worked in the San Francisco and Philadelphia regional offices, EPA headquarters in Washington, and the RTP-based research arm starting in 2002. Her focal areas ranged from water quality and Superfund to environmental justice and science communication. Cyndy currently serves on the boards of Sustainable North Carolina, the Triangle Area Chinese American Society, and the Raleigh Chinese Language School. In these and other endeavors, Cyndy brings a conviction that individuals and organizations can maximize their productivity, engagement, and impact through partnership, accountability and leadership.
Cyndy received a BA in human biology from Stanford University in 1987 and a master’s in Pacific International Affairs from UC San Diego in 1991
Alyssa A. Farrell, Marketing Manager for Sustainability Solutions, SAS
Alyssa Farrell is the Marketing Manager for Sustainability Solutions and works with SAS customers around the world to understand best practices and solutions for challenging business issues. She participates in environmental industry groups and is a member of the Corporate Leadership Council of the National Association of State CIOs.
Prior to joining SAS, Farrell was a senior consultant in the Deloitte Public Sector practice. She is a graduate of the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, where she earned her MBA degree with a concentration in Management Information Systems. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University.
