An emerging force is changing global economics. In his ground-breaking book, "The Rise of the Creative Class," Dr. Richard Florida advises the rise of a new social class, the Creative Class, is beginning to create a significant economic impact on organizations and cities around the world. This new class will determine how the workplace is organized, what companies will prosper or go bankrupt, and even which cities will thrive or not. Just as technology wrought sweeping changes in the economy through the era of dot.coms, so too will the Creative Class.

This emerging force is about knowledge, intelligence and creativity of people who derive their identity and value from their roles as purveyors of creativity. Comprising nearly forty million individuals in the US alone, these people have made decisions that have had a significant economic impact and are shaping the future of organizations and metropolises that seek to attract them.

About Richard Florida
Richard Florida is the author of the best-selling book, The Rise of the Creative Class: And How It's Transforming Work, Leisure Community and Everyday Life. Currently in its tenth printing, the book has stimulated an international debate about the causes and consequences of economic growth.

Florida is the Heinz Professor of Economic Development at Carnegie Mellon, where he also heads the Software Industry Center. He has been a visiting professor at MIT and Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. He is currently a Visiting Scholar at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC.

He is co-author of five other books and more than 100 articles in academic journals.

Florida is founder and principal of two companies: the Creativity Group, an innovative communications and strategies team, and Catalytix, a strategy-consulting firm that works with regions, governments and corporations around the world.

Richard Florida earned his Bachelor's degree from Rutgers College and his Ph.D. from Columbia University.
