The Information Factory, Chargeback and ABC (Part I) (audio seminar)

Presented By:
Sid Finehirsh, CMX Group

Learning Objectives

The infrastructure of Information Technology (IT) is a capital-intensive facility whose primary purpose is to produce information. The specific information output may be different for each business, but in every industry the generically described output of IT is always information. In that sense, IT is an information factory.

When IT is viewed as a factory, the case for IT chargeback is reinforced. Factories rarely transfer the cost of production to multiple lines of business based on simple allocations. The factory metaphor goes beyond simply making the case for IT chargeback--it also facilitates our thinking about the chargeback calculation methodologies to be used.
