What is ITIL?
ITIL stands for the IT Infrastructure Library, which describes how to deliver high-quality IT services that meet both customer and business needs. ITIL presents a very comprehensive description of accumulated "best practices" in four broad areas: Infrastructure Management, Security Management, Application Management and Service Management.

The Service Management area has tremendous and immediate applicable value to almost any IT Operations organization supporting mission-critical functions. ITIL Service Management itself is divided into two categories: Service Support and Service Delivery.
