Program content
After the Enron and WorldCom scandals in the USA the Sarbanes-Oxley Act came into being. This Act now applies to European companies listed on US Stock Exchanges and the subsidiaries of US Corporations. Europe has now seen other examples of scandals at Parmalat and more recently Shell. Is your company immune? Are you personally safe from a 20 year jail term?
The simple fact is that most companies are still unsure about how to comply with the various sections of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. With the 2004 deadline for Section 404 compliance marching ever closer, companies must establish an internal control system for tracking and auditing financial processes; then executives and the external auditor must testify to its effectiveness. Similarly Section 409 compliance will require serious consideration in terms of Policies, Procedures and supporting IT systems.
